New Story on Victorian Collections
'The Dreamer and the Cheerful Thing', a powerful tale of two brothers and their experiences during the First World War, is the latest addition to our Victorian Collections Stories page.
Contributing guest curator Walter (Wal) Barber is an amateur field naturalist, family historian, and retired welfare-worker. His grandfather, Bob Snape, was a WWI Veteran whose (heavily censored) anecdotes always fascinated Wal. After Bob's death in 1977, a deeper story emerged via two old trunks jammed full of what Wal describes as a 'treasure trove' – diaries, short stories, poems, maps, music scores, postcards, and photographs.
