It's Academic [Past Event]

Thu 06 Sep, 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Join fellow museum professionals for an informal evening exploring recent research into museums and learning. Two speakers will be followed by a chance to catch up with colleagues at a local pub. Places are very limited so book early.

Dr. Amy McKernan, Melbourne Graduate School of Education: Teaching Confronting and Contested Histories in Museums. Amy says “Employing concepts from affect and trauma theory, I consider the social purpose of representing (or not representing) histories that shock, challenge, and destabilise visitors. My doctoral research investigated Museums Victoria, the Australian War Memorial, and Port Arthur Historic Site”

Michelle Hamilton, SLV: The Australian Learning Lecture Passion Index Project. Focused on identifying and developing student passions and ensuring that schools value these passions as a crucial part of learning, the Passion Index project poses a range of questions about Passion-Led Learning in schools and whether it holds the key to student engagement and creating learners who are equipped for life beyond school.
